Opportunity Overview
Anesthesia Specialists of Bethlehem (ASB) is seeking a fellowship-trained cardiac anesthesiologist for a full-time, partnership-track position within St. Luke's University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. This is a rare opportunity to join a thriving, physician-led private practice at the forefront of a major program expansion — a brand-new cardiac tower opening at the Anderson Campus in October 2026.
The cardiac anesthesia team consists of six fellowship-trained anesthesiologists providing direct (non-supervisory) care. Annual cardiac case volume is projected to reach approximately 850 cases supported by four cardiac surgeons. Clinical time is split between cardiac surgical cases (~1.5–2 days per week) and the general anesthesiology pool.
Compensation highlights:
- Average total package: ~$655,000
- Base salary: $501,000
- Cardiac and voluntary call: ~$80,000
- Employer-funded 401(k): $70,000
- Sign-on bonus: $100,000
- Relocation assistance: $10,000
- 8 weeks PTO + 5 sick days; $3,000 CME allowance
- Blue Cross health insurance; $500/mo vehicle stipend; $80/mo cell stipend

Cardiac Program Details
ASB's comprehensive cardiac anesthesia program covers the full spectrum of cardiac surgical services:
- Routine coronary artery bypass grafting and valve surgery
- Complex and emergent aortic surgery
- Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation
- Minimally invasive and structural heart procedures including TAVR and MitraClip
Call Structure
Cardiac call (home-based, with additional compensation):
- First call: 24-hour shifts, minimum 3 per month (including 1 weekend day)
- Second call: weekdays until 7 PM
- Voluntary additional shifts available
General call:
- First call: in-house overnight, 2× per month (4 PM–7 AM); post-call day off
- Weekend call: 24-hour shifts, ~3–4× per year; post-call day off
- CRNAs cover all campuses overnight
Combined call frequency: approximately 1:7 to 1:8
Practice Overview
ASB is the Lehigh Valley's premier physician-led private anesthesia practice with more than 30 years of stability and excellence. The group comprises 85 anesthesiologists and 168 CRNAs providing services across 13 inpatient hospitals and 3 ambulatory surgery centers within St. Luke's University Health Network.
ASB is deeply committed to the Perioperative Surgical Home model, with physician-led Acute Pain Services, Surgical Optimization Clinics, and ERAS protocols across nearly all surgical specialties. Beyond cardiac anesthesia, the group maintains a broad case mix including orthopedics, thoracic, neurosurgery, interventional radiology, urology, gynecology, ENT, vascular, and general surgery. ASB physicians hold VP of Medical Affairs and other key health system leadership roles.
Partnership track: Partnership vote at 18 months; partnership granted upon completion of 2 years of employment. One-time equity buy-in of just $2,500.
